What is the GreenRoad?

The GreenRoad is an initiative developed by Whereis® to celebrate the launch of the new Whereis.com site. Whereis® hopes to raise awareness of the greenhouse gas (CO2 and other) emissions Australians produce while driving cars, to enable them to make more informed decisions - not just about directions, but also about what that journey means for our environment.

Greenhouse gas emissions

Carbon is a common base element on our planet - but carbon dioxide (CO2) is also a greenhouse gas. This means it's present in the atmosphere all the time and stops heat escaping into space. But too much CO2 can mean too much heat - causing what we know as global warming.

Our Partner Greenfleet - a not-for-profit organisation - has been helping Australians offset some of their CO2 emissions by planting native trees on their behalf since 1997. Trees naturally absorb CO2, so planting more trees can mean that, over time, the environment has a better ability to recover from our carbon footprint.

When you drive your car releases greenhouse gas emissions (including CO2 and other gases) so, offsetting up to 200km of the estimated CO2 emissions1 from your next trip with the GreenRoad is a great start. If you want to do more you can contact Greenfleet directly to find out about offsetting your car's estimated CO2 emissions for a whole year!

1 Based on information sourced from Greenfleet for the average passenger vechicle in Australia using standard unleaded petrol. Your actual emissions may be different, depending on driving, road and vehicle conditions.
